Variants - DJ's that mighta, shoulda, or coulda been
A Variant Dust Jacket (AKA alternate DJ, however, fantasy-variant DJ might be a better way of saying it) has never been on a book
before it was designed, usually by a hobbyist, for an edition that is probably long out of print.  Hobbyists like myself make them just for
the challenge and sheer fun of doing it.  Phil Normand probably does them better than anyone else at recoverings.com, and I
recommend that you take a look at his designs, too.  I've designed all of my variants for Burroughs or G&D editions long out of print.  I
sought to keep the ambiance of the time period and the publication styles of the time.  For example, I deliberately choose to design my
JUNGLE GIRL variant to look somewhat like THE BLUE BOOK MAGAZINE of the 1930s.  I've also striven to use only materials that are
now in the public domain.  Whether you buy one of these variants or not, I hope you enjoy both the craft and the whimsy that went into
them.

NOTE: If you decide to buy a variant, don't throw the old DJ away.  It's too valuable to collectors.  Instead simply keep it on the book, but
put the variant over it.  I use acid free paper; therefore, you won't contaminate your original by displaying the variant in this fashion.
J. Allen St. John - Above is a digital copy of the original painting used for the
illustration on the cover of the January 1932 edition of THE BLUE BOOK MAGAZINE
serialization of
Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle.  This composition would be converted to
a drawing and used as the illustration opposite page 142 in the McClurg first edition
of this title.
